Chicago Stay-at-Home Advisory Effective November 16, 2020

Chicago Stay-at-Home Advisory Effective November 16, 2020

The number of daily COVID cases in the City of Chicago now exceeds 2000 cases per day and the test positivity rate is above 15%. Both of these numbers are very alarming. Starting today, the City has issued a stay-at-home advisory. The advisory currently does not impact us as we already operate within the proposed limits. The gym will remain open for now.

Since reopening in July, the gym has not experienced any reported cases of COVID. We have taken significant measures to keep the community safe, including purchasing new air filtration systems.

Given the rise in cases, we are taking a few additional precautions:
- Not accepting any new members
- Limiting the size of grappling classes to 8 members
- All classes will be 50 minutes, ending 10 minutes before the end of the hour, for cleaning
- More frequent gym cleaning
- Exit the gym within five minutes of the class ending

But we can't do this alone. You must stay diligent and not take any unnecessary risks. The risks you take outside of the gym can and will impact our community inside the gym. This is not the time to take chances.

Please pre-register for any classes you plan on attending. No more exceptions. If you are not registered, you will not be allowed to train. If you can't make a class you registered for, remove your name from the list. Space is limited and every spot is important.

It's not all bad news. Both Pfizer and Moderna have announced early results that their vaccines are at least 90% effective! Most people should have access to a vaccine by early spring.

In the meantime, we know what works: masks, frequent hand washing, and physical distance. Don't get lazy. Keep your masks on at the gym at all times.

Also, continue to monitor yourself for symptoms. Do not come to the gym if you are experiencing any COVID symptoms or have been exposed. If you have been exposed, you are required to self-quarantine and stay home for 14 days. No exceptions.

We have to do this together. And we will.

Combat Sport Training in the time of Corona....

Combat Sport Training in the time of Corona....

It has been nearly 6 months since the gym had its initial closure back in March 2020 due to the novel coronavirus. You can wait until things are back to normal in order to resume training. However, the reality is that things will never be the same as how they were before the COVID pandemic. We have been holding outdoor classes since June 2020 and indoor BJJ/grappling classes since July 2020 using the Chicago Department of Public Health guidelines for the Health and Fitness industry. Although it is NOT required you can even protect yourself further by wearing a mask while participating in our outdoor classes (it’s mandatory to wear a facial covering/mask for indoor classes)!

Are you still trying to workout on your own? Running/jogging isn’t your thing? Don’t have enough fitness equipment at home or you are unsure of the actual programming needed to ensure that you are making progress toward your fitness goal(s)? Maybe you need the additional motivation from a group class or simply missing the social/community aspects of a gym? Combat sport isn’t like riding a bike. The longer you wait the more of your skills you will lose! Additionally, exercise is essential for well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic.
